Bringing five years of New Zealand school teaching experience, Miriam is a VLE and Web 2.0 Academic Advisor for Unitec. She also has qualifications in proofreading and photography, and a Bachelor of Arts majoring in English. Miriam is a native German and she enjoys dancing, painting, writing, reading, and running (she is a staunch supporter of the Oxford comma). When she thinks no one is watching, she is being a computer geek.
Miriam has created screencasts to help Unitec staff with Moodle functionality, empowering teachers to manage their learners’ environment confidently and independently, developing teachers digital literacy skills here at Unitec. Miriam has interests in games for learning, believing that education should be interesting and fun, and if it’s not we’re doing something wrong. Her major focus is to help teachers understand that eLearning isn’t just putting all your resources online, but engaging and entertaining the students through collaborative and interactive activities.
Miriam also works for Moodle Partner HRDNZ creating online training resources and delivering onsite training. Miriam created and facilitates the Theme Designers course on MoodleBites and has created several open-source themes for the Moodle community. She created the Unitec default and Faculty themes, is a moderator in the Themes Forum on Moodle.org, and is a PHM (Particularly Helpful Moodler) as rated by the community on Moodle.org.
